Chennai-based Appasamy Associates, backed by private equity firm Warburg Pincus, on Thursday announced the acquisition of German ophthalmic surgical equipment manufacturer RUCK as part of its plans to expand its global surgical ophthalmology business. The company did not disclose the financial details of the transaction. RUCK, which has more than four decades of experience in ophthalmic surgery, manufactures surgical systems used in cataract and vitreoretinal procedures. Its product portfolio includes Pentasys, Qube and Qube Pro, with the latter serving as its flagship surgical platform.
The Qube Pro and Pentasys systems are widely used by ophthalmic surgeons in Germany and the Benelux region. The acquisition will strengthen Appasamy's surgical equipment portfolio by adding RUCK's specialised phaco-vitrectomy technology, while retaining its engineering and product development capabilities in Germany.
