Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy
Emphasising that PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) helped the farm sector in reducing irrigation costs and generating additional income, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, said that PM-KUSUM 2.0 will integrate learnings from the first scheme, moving towards a more sustainable blend of food and energy security. Excerpts
What is the thought behind PM-KUSUM 2.0?
PM-KUSUM 2.0 aims at a more sustainable blend of food security and energy security. For instance, in Component A, we had kept a provision for a ground-mounted solar. But for that, you don't have availability of agricultural land, as it was meant for farmers to use. Barren agricultural land was not available much in other parts of the country except in Rajasthan. So component A could take off only in Rajasthan. In other parts, it didn't take off. We realised farmers won't abandon agriculture to set up solar farms. So the future will be agri-photovoltaics, without compromising farm production. So, that will have to be a focus in Kusum 2.0.
