The Indian data centre market is growing at a rapid pace -- projected to reach up to 12 GW by 2030. International companies have poured billions of dollars into building cloud storage infrastructure across the country over the past few years. Both government and private banks have now joined the AI boom with multi-billion-dollar green credit facilities and long-term infrastructure loans.
Preliminary data published by UN Trade and Development in January reveals data centres captured more than one fifth of global greenfield investment in 2025. Announced foreign direct investment in the sector had reportedly exceeded an estimated $270 billion -- driven by surging demand for AI infrastructure and digital networks. The race to build large-scale data centers had also pushed global FDI up 14% to an estimated $1.6 trillion in 2025.
