India's BS VII norms propose to tighten pollution checks and bring EV batteries, brakes and tyres under greater scrutiny
India's next round of vehicle emission rules is taking shape. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved a proposed rollout schedule for Bharat Stage VII, starting in April 2029. Aligned with Europe's Euro 7 standards, the norms would take effect in stages, with the final phase scheduled for April 2035. Light goods vehicles would follow in April 2030, with buses and heavier commercial vehicles joining in April 2031. Two-wheeler standards are expected separately. It should be noted that these are draft rules, with a consultation window for objections and suggestions. This means that manufacturers have an outline to work with and the final notification must settle the details.
